A biomedical engineering alumna studied the mechanical properties of different surfaces used in equestrian sports to better understand why show jumping horses were becoming injured.
Blanca Osorio '23 cherished the hands-on activities at the College of Engineering. Originally from Los Angeles, California, she found research opportunities and a community that made her time with the college worthwhile.
"My interests took a path of their own," says Marcus Deloney, reflecting on what inspired his educational and career paths. The UC Davis graduate-turned-research scientist currently invests his time and considerable scientific skills helping others by researching new treatments for chronic illnesses.
Much like a fresh set of eyes, a small pen-shaped device is showing surgeons a more accurate way to treat cancer and heart disease. The device uses new technology developed at UC Davis to scan and illuminate unhealthy tissue in real time so it can be removed.
Mentored by a biomedical engineering professor, two young alumni develop a modernized recycling process that reconstitutes fabric to help eliminate waste in fashion.
