Job Opportunity: Postdoc Position In Semiconductor Detectors for Medical Imaging 

Position: A position is available in the Cherry laboratory in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of California at Davis (http://bme.ucdavis.edu/cherrylab/). We are looking for a highly motivated individual to work on detector development. The postdoc will be jointly mentored by Dr. Gerard Ariño-Estrada and Dr. Simon Cherry. Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in or related to biomedical engineering with experience in radiation detector instrumentation. Expertise in nuclear physics, detector physics and electronics is preferred. The successful applicant will lead the development of a novel gamma detector concept for medical imaging and will be responsible for the following tasks: 

• TlBr detector development. 
• Data acquisition (DAQ) development. 
• Build and evaluate the performance of a detector prototype. 
• Writing manuscripts, abstracts, conference presentations, etc. 

Applicants with the following experiences are required: 

• Experience in operating semiconductor detectors (Si, Ge, Cd(Zn)Te, TlBr, etc). 
• Experience in assembling evaluation setups including ASICs, nuclear instrumentation modules (NIM), digitizers, etc. 
• Experience in C/C++, python, Matlab, and/or LabVIEW (or Lab windows) for data analysis and graphic user interface (GUI) design. 

The successful applicant will be encouraged to develop independent research ideas and prepare proposals for research funds, fellowships, etc. The initial appointment will be for one year. Contingent upon mutual agreement, satisfactory performance and the availability of funds, the appointment may be renewed.
