Job Opportunity: Postdoc Positions in Novel Positron Emission Imaging Detector Development

Position

Multiple positions are available in the Cherry laboratory in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of California, Davis (https://bme.ucdavis.edu/cherrylab/). We are looking for highly motivated individuals to work on the development of novel positron emission tomography (PET) detectors and reconstruction-free direct positron emission imaging (dPEI) technology. These individuals will be jointly mentored by Drs. Sun Il Kwon and Simon Cherry. Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in or related to biomedical engineering or medical imaging. The successful applicants will collaborate with scientists in our group to develop novel positron emission imaging technologies with the following specific tasks:

• PET detector development using ultra-dense and fast ceramic scintillators for total-body PET scanners.
• Ultrafast gamma-ray detector development for reconstruction-free direct positron emission imaging (dPEI)
• Computational algorithm development for dPEI using machine learning and advanced signal processing techniques.
• High-speed analog and digital data acquisition (DAQ) system development with precise timing measurement

Preferred experience

• Electronics schematic design and PCB layout.
• FPGA development.
• Algorithm development using machine learning.
• C/C++, MATLAB, or other software languages.
• Monte-Carlo simulation toolkits, such as Geant4 or GATE.

The successful applicants will also be encouraged to develop independent research ideas and prepare proposals for research funds, fellowships, etc. The initial appointment will be for one year and can be extended depending on performance and funding.
