UC Davis Biomedical Engineering Emeritus Dr. Katherine Ferrara Receives Inaugural Leadership Award from WMIS WIMIN Group

UC Davis Biomedical Engineering Emeritus Faculty Member Dr. Katherine Ferrara has been honored by the World Molecular Imaging Society (WMIS)’s Women in Molecular Imaging Network (WIMIN) with the group’s inaugural leadership award.

WMIS WIMIN fosters career development and advancement of women in molecular-imaging sciences. The group advocates within WMIS on issues of importance to women in molecular-imaging sciences, provides leadership for career development opportunities for women in molecular-imaging sciences, and promotes and recognizes the professional and scientific accomplishments of women in molecular-imaging sciences.

In addition to being an emeritus faculty member of the UC Davis Biomedical Engineering Department, Ferrara is a professor of radiology at Stanford University as of July 1 of this year. She is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and a fellow of the IEEE, American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Biomedical Engineering Society, the Acoustical Society of America and the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering.

Prior to receiving her Ph.D., Ferrara was a project engineer for General Electric Medical Systems, where she was involved in the development of early magnetic-resonance imaging (MRI) and ultrasound systems. Following an appointment as an associate professor in the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Biomedical Engineering Department, she served as the founding chair of the UC Davis Biomedical Engineering Department.
